Life goes at a very fast and busy pace. It seems as the years go by, the pace is increasingly faster. I am not sure if it is due to how we live our lives, you know, we have a very computerized society and everything we touch seems to be “electronic.” We have smartphones, our kids have smartphones and we are all on our phones longer than we should be. We miss out on so much when it comes to spending time with our family. I found a simple, yet profound way to counteract this problem. Let’s take a look at an awesome collection of games and decide to do family time with board games. Also, included with this blog are some ideas for jigsaw puzzles (also considered board games) and how they too can bring us together for precious “family time.”
A lost tradition
Many years ago as I was growing up, my friends and I would get together after school to play. We went outdoors to ride our bikes, roller skate, play ball, jump rope, and ride our bikes again.
On rainy days, we broke out the board games and spent hours playing those. I remember games like Candyland, Monopoly, and Yahtzee. We also enjoyed coloring in our coloring books or drawing pictures.
To kids nowadays, this probably sounds boring and we look like the proverbial caveman, haha. But truly, we as parents need to help them put the electronics down once in a while and sit down with them to play a game or build a puzzle. We need to do this to build a strong and solid relationship with our children.
I remember my brother and I and my parents would sit and play Monopoly for hours on rainy Saturdays and Sundays. This was our tradition on New Year’s Eve as well. Oh, I sure do miss those days!
Family time is bonding time
There is nothing better in this world than to sit down with your family and enjoy time spent together. This special time is building precious memories that will last you and your children an entire lifetime.
These memories will be especially precious when someday one or two of your family members will not be around. I know this sounds really sad, but it is very true. Never take any of your loved ones for granted because the day will come when life will never be the same. Bond with your brothers, sisters, and parents and be as close to them as you can be.
Now let’s take a look at some of the ways we can enjoy time spent together!
This collection of classic board games consists of Chess, Checkers to Parcheesi and Ludo, and much more!
This game collection is perfect for the whole family and age recommendations are ages 8 and up. This would be a great weekend game set as there are several to choose from. Take a vote, set the game up, and play!!
Fat Brain Toys
Fat Brain Toys is a manufacturer of educational toys and games that help strengthen logic and strategy skills and encourages friendly competition. They produce toys for special needs children too. See my post on “Toys for Autistic Kids.“
There are many benefits to these games as they not only help the brain develop and function but also bring people together to develop close friendships and bonding.
Here is another great idea for bringing family together! Jigsaw puzzles are not only fun and challenging but they encourage cooperation and working together to put the puzzle together.
There are a variety of puzzles to choose from however, I will list a few of them for you to consider. You can always follow my link to browse for other pictures too!
The benefits of a jigsaw puzzle

My final thoughts
Have you ever heard the saying “the good ole days?” Yes, I am one of those who say that every now and then. I am of the latter of the baby boomers and so to younger people, I am considered old. HaHa. I admit it, but it’s ok. I am. But I would say “older and wiser.”
My words of advice are this: Take time out for your family. Spend every minute you can with your children, as well as other family members. Never take life for granted.
I hope you enjoyed this blog and I hope you take this advice to heart. I know you will never regret it!
Grab those games and puzzles and have some fun!!!
