Power Wheels Jeep Wrangler Fun!

As the owner of this website I have searched out some special deals for some of the products and services mentioned herein. When you use the links on this page to make a purchase, I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. All opinions remain my own. Full disclosure.

There is nothing more fun than to cruise around the neighborhood in a brand new shiny Jeep!!! That goes for kids too! When the weather is nice and the kids need to be outside and not indoors with constant video gaming or TV watching, the Power Wheels Jeep Wrangler is the way to go!! It will keep them entertained for hours and get them out of the house to play.

Why children need outdoor play

There are many benefits to being outdoors for all of us and children are no exception.  Our bodies require the sun light in order to make vitamin D. Vitamin D plays a huge role from bone development to the immune system. Children especially need this as they are in the process of growing.

Exercise is another reason our kids should go outdoors. When your child goes outdoors, it is more likely that he will run and play. It is good for him or her to get at least an hour of outdoor activity. Nothing beats being outside with the sunshine and fresh air along with running, playing and seeing friends.

Being outdoors and seeing friends encourages socialization skills that we all need as adults. When children play outside and meet with friends, it allows them to be a part of a group and teaches them to share and how to cooperate with others.

Outdoor play toys

Getting your kids to play outside can sometimes be a challenge. But if you keep encouraging them, it will be a lot easier. I know that now-a-days, most kids have electronic games and prefer to stay indoors to play them. There is nothing wrong with them playing those types of games, but they need to have a time limit on them.

One of the ways you can get your child’s interest up in going outside is to have a toy that is just calling his or her name…..the Power Wheels Jeep Wrangler!

What’s so great about the Power Wheels Jeep Wrangler?

Well, first of all I want to say that this is a perfect little “ride on” toy for your 3 to 7-year-old child. Let me explain.

(As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases)

First of all, it is a 2 seater so your child can ride with a friend. Second, it has forward up to 5 mph (8 km/h) and reverse up to 2.5 mph (4 km/h), and drives like a “real” Jeep.

This Jeep has doors that open and close.

The Jeep is easy to operate and kids learn very quickly how to drive it!

The dashboard has a horn and a radio.

Oh my goodness, I could go on and on! I have to tell you that when my two oldest boys were little, they had one of these. It was the best couple hundred dollars I ever spent!! They rode together on this for hours and had so much fun!

I am just so happy to see that these little Jeeps are still being made!!

So, more about the Jeep. It has wheels that can go either on pavement or the grass. This little Jeep will hold 130 pounds, so if you weigh that or under, you can take this little gem out for a spin when your little guy or gal is sleeping!! HaHa. I used to do it all the time. I am not sure who had more fun with this, me or them!!!

Assembly

This little Jeep will have to be assembled when it arrives, but putting this together is not difficult. Definitely pay attention to the instructions and you should not have any problems.

Word of caution: If this is being purchased as a gift, do not assemble it before giving it unless you have a truck and a way to transport it. It is good size. The dimensions are: 47 x 30.5 x 33 inches.

The Jeep comes with a 12V battery and needs to be charged for 18 hours right out of the box. If you do that, this battery will work very well and can last for around 4 hours at a time. Make sure, however, that you do not “overcharge” it or you could ruin the battery.

Lockout option

When your child is first learning how to drive this little jeep, there is a lock-out option feature that allows you to “cap” what speed your child can go. As he or she gets better at driving this, you can re-adjust to let your child go faster. It will go up to 5 miles per hour in forward and 2.5 miles per hour in reverse.

A style for everyone

I am so pleased to say that this little Jeep comes in Disney Princess, Hot Wheels Blue, Toy Story 4, Barbie, and Red.  I will show them below and I have attached the link for you to purchase.

Summing it up

All in all, this Power Wheels Jeep Wrangler is one of the best gifts you can get your child for outdoor play and you can let them drive ahead of you on long walks in the neighborhood. You and your child are sure to get compliments on this and you will all enjoy being outside!!!

What’s Sophie La Girafe?

As the owner of this website I have searched out some special deals for some of the products and services mentioned herein. When you use the links on this page to make a purchase, I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. All opinions remain my own. Full disclosure.

Every baby is born a unique individual and with that uniqueness includes all stages of development. Teething is one of those stages. Along with teething comes an easily irritable baby.  Babies often cry and fuss and are sometimes inconsolable. So what do we do about this and how do we soothe a baby’s teething pain? Along with other remedies for soothing sore gums, I will answer the question “what’s Sophie La Girafe?”

Signs of teething

The age at which our baby will start to teethe can range anywhere from 3 months to about 6 months of age. I say this because there are some babies who actually start this process as early as age 3 months! However, generally speaking most babies will start to teethe by around 6 months of age.

When you see these signs, you will want to be prepared with different measures to soothe your baby. These signs are:

  • Excessive amount of drooling
  • Chewing on fists or any other objects
  • Irritability and crankiness
  • Slight increase in temperature

Call your doctor if your baby has swollen, puffy, bleeding gums and/or if his face is swollen or swelling up. Never make any assumptions about anything, call your baby’s doctor right away.

Soothing your baby

There are a few things you can do to soothe your baby from the effects of teething.  If your baby has a slight temperature, call your baby’s doctor to ask about giving infant Tylenol drops to reduce the pain and discomfort. Your doctor will tell you the correct dose, do not try to figure out the dose yourself.

I have reviewed a great digital thermometer and you can click here if you would like to check it out.

You can use your finger or a clean, cold washcloth to gently rub your baby’s gums. Please make sure you wash your hands well before placing your finger in her mouth. You do not want to introduce germs into your baby’s mouth.

A toy for teething

Meet Sophie La Girafe! Sophie is hand-made in France of 100% natural rubber and hand-painted with food-grade dye.

The rubber used comes from the Hevea trees growing in Malaysia. The trees produce a liquid known as “latex.” It is natural, soft, elastic, waterproof, insulating, and pleasant to the smell and touch.

Sophie is the first teething ring made from 100% natural rubber.

You can purchase yours here!

(As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases)

Sophie has 2 different rings each with a different texture to soothe your baby’s gums. It is designed so that your baby can hold it himself.

Some drawbacks

It has been noted that Sophie’s paint has come off while the baby chews or bites on the head.  However, the manufacturer of Sophie has indicated that the paint is food-grade and so is non-toxic.

What “not” to give your baby for teething

I think it is important to note that there are certain items you would not want to give your baby for teething relief. One of those items are over-the-counter teething gels and/or tablets. Some of those “home remedies” have been found to have dangerous levels of an ingredient called “belladonna” which can cause seizures and difficulty breathing.

Another type of medication you should never give your child are teething medications that contain benzocaine or lidocaine.  These pain relievers can be both harmful and even “fatal” to your baby.

Word of caution – never give your baby anything until you consult your baby’s doctor!

Teething necklaces, bracelets, or anklets are also on the list of what you should never give your baby while teething. Many of these contain “beads” and can come off and be a choking hazard to your baby.  They also pose a threat for strangulation, mouth injury, and infection.

The original teether gift set

Purchase this for your baby or give it as a gift!

Sophie La Girafe and teether

(As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases)

Here is a neat little gift set for any baby who is actively teething. He will love this classic little Sophie who’s been around for 55 years!

The Sophie the Giraffe toy  (the original teether) and teething ring is made just like the Sophie above and also note that it is BPA-free.

My final thoughts

It is never easy taking care of your baby when he is obviously having discomfort and pain. As a parent, you feel your little one’s pain and you want to do whatever you can to make them feel better.

I recommend that you follow the guidelines above to make your baby as comfortable as possible. Always remember, when in doubt about something regarding your baby and how to treat her, call your baby’s doctor for advice!

Having a Sophie La Girafe original teether is a great teething toy to have for your little one and it is safe for her to use.

What is a Toddler Bed?

As the owner of this website I have searched out some special deals for some of the products and services mentioned herein. When you use the links on this page to make a purchase, I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. All opinions remain my own. Full disclosure.

….

Sometime around 1 1/2 to 2 years of age, your toddler will be trying to climb out of his crib. This is the time you are going to have to make a decision to transition him from a crib to a bed. What you don’t want to do is to put him in a regular full size bed. He definitely will not be ready for that just yet.  The best way to transition him to a bed is to use a toddler bed. You might ask, “what is a toddler bed?” and that is what I will explain to you here and I will give you some ideas to meet that need. So, here goes!

The signs of readiness for a bed

The signs that your little guy or gal is ready for the transition to a “big boy or big girl bed” are as follows:

  • Attempting to climb out of the crib (the biggest sign)
  • Your little one is potty training
  • The crib is too small (your toddler has outgrown it)

Making the move to a toddler bed

Before starting the transition you want to consider the bed.  A toddler bed should be low to the ground and have a bedside rail. When you set it up, make a big deal out of it to your little one. Get him or her excited about this new “big girl/big boy” bed.

For the bedding, it’s a great idea to pick their favorite cartoon characters or movie characters for the sheets, pillow cases and comforter. They will love it!

Keep your bed times consistent as well as all other routines like bath time or story time. The only change should be their new bed.

Also, make sure your little one has his favorite teddy bear or other favorite stuffed animal with him at bed time.

The floor around the bed

If the floor is a wood floor, put something down to provide cushion in case your toddler falls out of bed. You can use something like a comforter or a couple of blankets folded up and placed beside the bed.

Guard rails

Guard rails are a very good idea even if you have carpeting or padded the floor. Children of this age can be very restless sleepers and so it is a good idea to have these guard rails. If your bed does not have them, you can purchase them and install yourself.

Safety during the night

Before you start using the toddler bed, go around your house as you did when your little first began to be mobile. Look at everything to see if it is “toddler proof.”

Are there any book shelves that can be tipped over? What about the dressers, are they secured against the wall? Bathrooms pose a safety hazard because of all the obvious – shaving razors, shampoo, soap, mouth wash etc.  Put all these items out of reach or secure with a cabinet lock. I have an article I posted called “A Baby Gate and Babyproofing Your Home” and I have some recommendations on what to buy to babyproof your house.

(As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases)

Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008

When you purchase a toddler bed you want to make sure it meets all of the safety standards set forth by the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA). These standards are as follows:

  • The surface coat of paint on the bed must not contain more than 90 ppm (0.009 percent) lead.
  • The lead content limit must not contain greater than 100 ppm (0.01 percent) of total lead content in any accessible part of the bed.
  • There are 8 phthalates (substances added to plastics to increase their flexibility, transparency, durability, and longevity) that the CPSIA has set limits to not contain more than 0.1 percent .
  • Testing and certification – toddler beds must be tested by an accredited third party laboratory accepted by the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) for compliance with the toddler beds standard and all other applicable children’s product safety rules, including the lead paint, lead content, and phthalate content limits.
  • Product and outer package labeling requirements – toddler beds must be marked with specific labeling information. This includes a tracking label, product registration card.

Dream On Me Austin Toddler Day Bed

(As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases)

The Dream On Me Austin Toddler Day Bed is a toddler bed that meets all of the safety standards as mentioned above and is a perfect choice for that transition bed.

It is made of pinewood and the paint used meets and exceeds the CPSC standards. Only eco-friendly, child-safe water-based paints are used on this bed.

The Austin is low to the floor and comes with a guard rail so you won’t have to purchase it separately.

This bed has a wooden support mattress rail so you will not need a box spring mattress.

The toddler bed uses a crib-sized mattress and I recommend the Dream On Me non-toxic, Greenguard certified standard crib mattress.

Five different colors to choose from

The Austin comes in 5 different colors/finishes and they are:

  • Pebble grey (pictured above)
  • Blush pink
  • Espresso
  • Black
  • White

The Austin specifications

54 L x 30 W x 29 H inches.

The dimensions of the safety rail are 22 1/4 x 8 3/4 inches.

Additional information

If your child is not quite ready for a toddler bed, I have written about a 3-in-1 convertible crib in a prior post. This convertible crib can be used as a crib, then to a toddler bed and then to a day bed. If you would like to read more about it and take a look at it, click here and you can check it out.

My final thoughts

I hope you found this article to be of good help to you in making your decision to transfer your toddler to a bed. It can be a very exciting time for your little one and yet a bittersweet experience for you as the parent. Your little guy or gal is growing up! It is hard to let go of each stage and I totally get it! We all want to keep our babies little, but yet we are proud of each step/milestone they make in their lives.

A Baby Gate and Babyproofing Your Home

As the owner of this website, I have searched out some special deals for some of the products and services mentioned herein. When you use the links on this page to make a purchase, I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. All opinions remain my own. Full disclosure.

…..

When your baby starts to pose in a crawling position and begins to rock back and forth on his hands and knees, it is time to baby-proof your home. There are many things you can do to make your home safe for your baby and I want to share with you how I have baby-proofed my home. For starters, one of the first things I purchased was a baby gate. I will also make some recommendations on other items that are very important when it comes to keeping your baby safe.

Cardinal Gates Stairway Angle Baby Gate

(As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases)

How and where do I start?

One of the very best ways to check your home for “baby safety” is to get on your hands and knees in one room at a time. Start with the kitchen and then work your way through the rest of the house.

First, cabinet locks are a must. You can either get the ones that you install or you can buy the locks that slip over the cabinet knobs and fasten. A toddler will not know how to unfasten these so don’t worry. Also secure the drawers especially if you keep knives in the kitchen drawers.

(As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases)

Second, if you have a dishwasher, get a lock for it. This poses a huge hazard if your little one opens it up and pulls out a knife or if the dishwasher is running, a steam burn could really harm your child. It would be a good idea to run the dishwasher only at night when your child is sleeping.

(As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases)

Third, look around the kitchen floor on your hands and knees through a child’s eyes. Is there anything on the floor that I “can taste?” or is there anything I can pull on? Can I climb up something like maybe a stool? Is there anything interesting I should put in my mouth?

You get the idea! Think like a child and you can really gain insight when on the floor looking at the room from your child’s level.

Cover those electrical outlets

Another important thing to do is to get outlet covers. You can purchase them at a pretty low cost. Make sure you leave no outlet uncovered. For some reason, babies love to stick things in the electrical outlets. I don’t think I need to say anything more on this.

(As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases)

Check your blinds

If you have the type of blinds that use cords, raise them up and out of baby’s reach. Or, replace them with the cordless blinds. There have been instances that babies have strangled on those cords. It’s definitely not worth the risk.

(As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases)

Door stoppers

Those spring coils that are on the back of just about every door have a plastic tip attached to them. Go around in every room of your home and check each door. Pull-on those plastic caps to see if they are loose or come off. If they are in fact loose, go to your local hardware store and purchase new ones. Or, you just may want to purchase the whole unit for replacement.

(As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases)

Hazardous and poisonous chemicals

Put all cleaning solutions, laundry soaps (including those soap pods), dishwasher detergents, toilet bowl cleaners, and all items of that nature, up on the highest shelf where it will be way out of reach for your child.  Remember that as your child grows and starts to walk, they also can be very good climbers! Adding those cabinet locks as well as removing all chemicals as mentioned above are the best ways to prevent a disaster from happening.

Stairs

Whether your little one is crawling or walking, you need to protect him from falling down the stairs. There are a lot of baby gates on the market, but you want to make sure the one you choose is a sturdy and safe one.

Pressure gates seem like a good option, but if not installed properly can actually pose a greater threat to safety. Children like to hold on to something to pull themselves up and if they choose to do that on this gate, it could actually cause an injury.  Also, pressure gates are hard to get in place and most of the time are easily pushed over.

A sturdy and safe baby gate

The Cardinal Gates Stairway Angle Baby Gate is a gate that is made out of metal and is attached directly to the wall. It is a maximum safety gate designed for the top of a stairway, but you can use it in any area. In addition, it has a stop bracket that prevents opening over a stairway for greater safety.

This baby gate will mount at angles up to 30 degrees. Most of the baby gates I have seen do not have that capability. This is a major plus in my book!

You can adjust the width from 27″ to 42.5″ and it is 29.5″ in height.

This gate is not easily opened by a toddler and so it provides a truly safe gate to place either at the top of your stairs or a doorway.

Here is a great gate and is perfect for closing off the stairs as well as other areas. Click the link for Cardinal Gates and get yours today!!

Cardinal Gates Stairway Angle Baby Gate

My recommendations to you

I highly recommend the above baby gate for you and your baby as well as the other items above for babyproofing your house. You can never be too careful and prepared for when your baby becomes “mobile.”

Taking a little time to take care of these very important things will be well worth your baby’s safety and your peace of mind!

Kitchen Helper Learning Tower

As the owner of this website, I have searched out some special deals for some of the products and services mentioned herein. When you use the links on this page to make a purchase, I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. All opinions remain my own. Full disclosure.

The other day my daughter-in-law was over and we were talking about making Christmas cookies on Christmas Eve. She was telling me about the kitchen helper learning tower that is available for little ones who want to help in the kitchen. Of course, me being the “grandma” I want to include my grandson with our family Christmas cookie baking tradition. I was racking my brain trying to figure out how I could get him to counter height. It was as if she were reading my mind.

Now I know!!!

I want to share with you some information on this in case you are thinking about getting one. Not only will this learning tower be a wonderful and safe way for your child to stand at the counter with you, but I found some other uses for it too.

Kitchen help

When my grandson is over, he always follows me around the kitchen. Curious as he is, he stands on his tippy toes to see what I am doing. He is getting bigger now so I am hardly able to lift him up like I used to. I have looked around for step stools, but I have not found one that I think is safe.

The kitchen helper learning tower is the perfect height at approximately 34 inches and has railings all around to keep him from falling off. I really like that feature.

Railings are all around your child for maximum safety. You do not have to worry that he will try to step back and fall off. Also, you know how it is when you are busy. An accident can happen the minute you turn your head to do something. No worries like this with this tower.

Look no further for a safe tower for your little guy or gal! Enjoy making those Christmas cookies and spending quality, memory-making times with your child!

Another great use – hand washing or brushing teeth

Here is another great use for this learning tower. You can use this for your child to stand at the kitchen or bathroom sink for teaching proper handwashing or for brushing teeth. You can have him/her help you wash those dishes after baking or cooking dinner! Great idea, don’t you think?

Safe and sturdy

There are many learning towers available, however, not all of them are safe. This learning tower is made from solid pine wood with a child-safe, non-toxic finish that prevents scratches and scuff marks.  It safely supports 150 lbs. per the manufacturer and is recommended for toddlers 18 months to 5 years old. For additional safety, there are attachable anti-slip strips on four legs.

Crayon marks wash right off

Just another side note.  If your child decides to “color” this stool with a crayon, no worries! The crayon markings will wash right off because of the finish. Just wanted to throw that information in there.

Available colors

The kitchen helper learning tower comes in natural and gray.

Click the links below to see the price and get one today!

Natural color

Gray color

SDADI Kids Kitchen Step Stool with Safety Rail – for Toddlers 18 Months and Older, Gray LT01G

(As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases)

The cons

When you assemble this tower, make sure to heed the warning found in the instructions for assembly. The warning is “do not overtighten the screws.” If you overtighten the screws you will crack the wood and cause the tower to be weak and non-sturdy.

My recommendations and final thoughts

I highly recommend this kitchen helper learning tower for you and your child. I have found this to be the safest, sturdiest, and best learning tower available. It is also reasonably priced as there are more expensive ones out there and not built as safe.

  • It is safest because of the rails going all-around your child to prevent him or her from taking a step backward and falling and it comes with attachable anti-slip strips for all four legs.
  • It is the sturdiest because it is made with wood and can hold up to 150 pounds so it is suitable for children up to 5 years old and older!
  • It is the best because of all the safety features and has non-toxic paint that can be wiped down with a damp cloth. Crayon markings will wash off easily.

All the best to you and I hope you found this review to be of value to you in helping you make a wise and informed decision for this learning tower.

A Car DVD Player Review

As the owner of this website I have searched out some special deals for some of the products and services mentioned herein. When you use the links on this page to make a purchase, I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. All opinions remain my own. Full disclosure.

If you have ever traveled with a little one or even an older child, you will know what I mean when I say a car DVD player can be a parent’s best friend! I have traveled many times with my son, daughter-in-law and grandson and I have to tell you that the car DVD player is worth every cent.

I have to admit that I enjoy it myself. I sometimes travel with my kids and I love to sit in the back seat with the baby (he is 2 but I still call him my baby).

This is a gem even for short trips around the city. I love to see my grandson intently watching his favorite shows while we are driving around. He loves getting into the car now because he knows he gets to watch “TV.”

Vanku 10.1 Inch Car Headrest DVD Player with Mount

(As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases)

This neat little lifesaver has a 10.1-inch screen so it is a perfect size for viewing in the car. It mounts right on the headrest of your seat so your child doesn’t have to hold it. This mount is not a permanent one so you can remove the DVD player for home use.

Easy to change discs

This portable DVD player has a great design in that all you have to do is lift the top portion (much like a laptop) to insert a disc. With this type of design, you can adjust the screen angle as well.

Use it at home or on the road

Another great feature of this car DVD player is that you can easily remove it from your car to use it in your home. It comes with remote control and has dual speakers. You can utilize your DVDs or download movies or shows using your MP3 files. More about this further down.

Hook up for second DVD player

If you decide you want 2 of these DVD players, you can connect them with an
AV cable and your kids can watch the same movies simultaneously or they can watch separate movies.

Hook up to the big screen

This car DVD player can be connected to a TV because it has an AV IN/ OUT function. Check out the details here.

Headphones

Your child can enjoy her movies and hear every word and you can have a conversation with your spouse or enjoy listening to your radio and favorite music. This makes for a win-win situation. This is a nice feature if your children decide to watch 2 different movies; they can use their own headphones and enjoy their own movie without having to hear anything else. This can avoid bickering in the back seat over whose video is louder.

HDMI input

The HDMI input function can sync up to 1080P video from your computer, mobile phone, Raspberry Pi, Xbox, or kindle fire, etc. I love that feature.  There is a side note here: for the best performance you will need to hook your phone up to the DVD player and it has the port for you to do that.

Charging it up

You have to plug this DVD player into a car charger when using in the car and a wall charger if used at home. Either way, it must be plugged in. Really, the only drawback or con to this player.

Digital movies and MP3 files

This has many ways for you to be entertained. You are not locked into having a DVD for viewing. You can watch digital movies and MP3 files directly from USB/SD/MMC with a max capacity of up to 128GB. See more about this here.

More great features

A great warranty offered. The manufacturer offers an 18-month warranty on this car DVD player. They offer a user manual, FAQ section, installation video tutorials on YouTube, and technical support.

(As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases)

Some really good videos

I see that many people get these 2 videos when they get this car DVD player:

 1. PBS KIDS: 20 Incredible Tales DVD

2.  Curious George 30 Story Collection

A great gift for your kids and grandkids

If you are wondering what to get for your kids for any occasion, I highly recommend you get the Vanku 10.1 Inch Car Headrest DVD Player with Mount, as it is a great choice!

You will make their life so much easier with this car DVD player especially if they like to take road trips. You will hear a lot of “thanks mom and dad!”

They will love all the features and will most likely use it in their home as well as their car.

Take a trip with them and sit in the back seat with your grandchild. You will get no better feeling than being there and watching the joy in your grand’s eyes.

Amazon Fire Tablet for Kids Review

As the owner of this website, I have searched out some special deals for some of the products and services mentioned herein. When you use the links on this page to make a purchase, I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. All opinions remain my own. Full disclosure.

Let me begin by saying that I absolutely love my Kindle. I purchased my first one in 2010 and I have since purchased another. I have the paperwhite because it suits my needs as I love to read. Now that my grandson is a little older, I have noticed that he too loves books. I have purchased small toy computers for him suitable for a toddler, but now I have my eye on the new Fire HD 10 Kids Edition Tablet – the Amazon Fire Tablet for kids. I have looked at all it has to offer and I think this is going to be perfect for him.

I will be watching my little guy 5 days a week and I want to be able to not only entertain him but also have the ability to sit and teach him using a fun approach. Learning should be fun and hold our attention. I found the perfect solution. I want to share what I found with you all. So, here goes.

This does everything!

The Amazon Fire Tablet for kids has over 20,000 apps, games, books, videos, audible books, and educational content from PBS Kids, Nickelodeon, Disney, and more.

It comes in a kid-proof case with a built-in stand. You can set your child down at the table, set it up and either watch a movie or play a game. This will not only be used for entertainment but is educational too. If your child is school age, this is a great tool for learning as it is a real tablet and functions as one.

Don’t worry about them surfing the internet, there are parental controls that you can set so your child will be safe.

Set a time limit and be in control

The parental controls allow you to put a time limit on your child’s screen time, filter the content your child sees, and set educational goals. There is an Amazon parent dashboard for you to use. Within the parent dashboard, you can set up Netflix, Minecraft, and Zoom!

Audible books

Storytime can be made easier for when you put your child down for a nap and you have something else you need to do. Sometimes I just need to take that conference call and I have to have something to keep my grandson’s attention, audible book here I come!!

Sweet music!

My grandson absolutely loves music! Every time music comes on, whether it be a TV commercial, songs in a movie or television show, he starts dancing and singing. It is a most adorable sight to see!  I love that this tablet has access to tons of music in all varieties and I can use this to play music for him.

Videos and Nickelodeon!

My grandson loves to watch Nickelodeon and I imagine he is not the only one. A couple of his favorite shows are Paw Patrol, Sponge Bob SquarePants, and Blues Clues. Well, on this tablet I can have these favorite shows anywhere we go and I love that!! He does too!!

Disney

Another important feature for us is Disney movies. There are many favorites in this family, but one, in particular, I have watched with my grandson is 101 Dalmatians. I think I know the script my heart! With this tablet, I can take those 101 Dalmatians and my grandson anywhere!!

Through the ages

As my little gem grows, so will the Fire Tablet for kids. I will be able to use this from now until he is a teenager. I have everything I need right within this tablet. I love that it is suitable for him now (he is almost 3) and I will be able to use it for teaching him, entertaining him, and spending quality time with him. He is already learning how to maneuver apps on a phone and loves to watch me on my computer. This will allow me to teach him how to use apps and to learn other things such as his ABCs right on his own tablet. Of course, at first, I will have to supervise him with this as it is not a toy (although it looks like one). But, it is in a very sturdy case and is pretty much kid-proof.

Lots of storage

One of the things I like about this newest or latest generation Fire Tablet for kids is that it has a 10.1 ” screen and is high definition (HD). There are 32 GB of storage and is compatible with a microSD card for up to 512 GB of additional storage. That is a lot of memory. This is important because you can store movies or games for your child to use when wi-fi is not available.

Did you know?

Amazon Kids+ includes thousands of Spanish language books, videos, apps, games, and audible books. I love this feature because everyone can benefit from this. Whatever language is your native tongue, you and your child can enjoy this. Learning a new language is a great thing if Spanish is not your native tongue.

Recommended accessories

There are accessories that are available such as a Bluetooth kids headset, screen protector, kids tablet backpack, memory card, power adaptor, and a zippered sleeve. I would recommend getting the headset for your child to minimize distractions. This is important when “school” is in session.

I also recommend getting either the zippered sleeve or the backpack so when the tablet is not in use it can be stored safely. Remember this is not a toy, it is a computer/tablet.

Warranty

The Amazon Fire Tablet for Kids comes with a 2-year warranty. So if you break it within that time frame, Amazon will replace it at no additional cost to you. It is good to have that peace of mind, especially when it comes to electronics.

Very good investment

If you are looking for a high-quality, efficient, and durable tablet for your child, this is the one for you. Also, a good thing to know is Amazon stands behind their product and offers a generous warranty period of 2 years.

Every parent or grandparent should have one

I hope you enjoyed my review of this amazing kid’s tablet. In my opinion, every parent and/or grandparent should have one as this serves both for quality entertainment and educational purposes. Guess what’s next on my list for things to get for my little munchkin?

Just wanted to tell you this comes in blue, pink, or purple to suit every child’s color choice.

Here’s the pink:

Nebulizer Machine for Kids and Adults

As the owner of this website, I have searched out some special deals for some of the products and services mentioned herein. When you use the links on this page to make a purchase, I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. All opinions remain my own. Full disclosure.

..

Before I begin my review of a portable nebulizer machine, I want to first explain to you what it is used for and why it is so important. There are a few different types of lung diseases, however, for the purposes of this article, I will talk about the one that affects children the most and it is called “asthma.”

This article is not to be taken as medical advice. It is for informational purposes only and to guide you to your physician for medical evaluation and treatment.

What is asthma?

Asthma is a lung disease in which your airways narrow and swell and may produce extra mucus. This makes breathing very difficult and you may cough, have a wheezing or whistling sound when you breathe, and causes shortness of breath. Asthma knows no age limit, so both children and adults can be affected by it.

An episode of asthma may be precipitated by a trigger known as an allergy or other factor. Specific allergens may be pollen, mold, animal dander, dust or foods. Asthma may also be triggered by weather changes, respiratory infections, exercise, acid reflux or heartburn, or emotional stress.

Some interesting facts

Approximately 10% to 15% of children are affected by asthma. It accounts for 25% of school absences caused by chronic illnesses.

Signs and symptoms of an asthma attack

Episodes of asthma may start gradually or may come on suddenly.  The signs and symptoms of an attack are as follows:

  • Shortness of breath with prolonged exhalation
  • Wheezing/whistling sound starting out only on exhale progressing to inhale and exhale and then no breath sounds.
  • For the infant, there is a grunting sound to each breath
  • Nasal/nostril-flaring
  • Cough

  • Accessory muscle use (this is when you have seen the diaphragm muscle indenting with each breath as well as the upper torso muscles)
  • Anxiety, irritability, and decreasing level of consciousness
  • Blue lips and a bluish tint to the skin (this is caused by lack of oxygen)

Complications

Complications of asthma can be quite serious. For instance, asthma can cause chronic or constantly occurring upper respiratory infections involving the airway tubes leading to the lungs and thereby causing pneumonia. It can also be the culprit for causing emphysema [the air sacs in the lungs (alveoli) are damaged and causing shortness of breath]. Another complication that can occur is right-sided heart failure. A complete or partial collapse of the entire lung or area (lobe) of the lung is yet another complication of this disease.

What to expect when you see your physician

If you or your child has had any of the above symptoms for asthma, you need to see your doctor right away. There could be other conditions starting to happen and therefore it is of utmost importance to be evaluated by a doctor.

For the sake of this article, we will look at what type of testing you can expect and what types of treatment are available to treat asthma. This is not a complete list of tests, as your doctor may determine further testing is necessary. Every person’s condition is unique and so this is only a general guide.

The doctor is going to do a series of blood tests looking for infections and your blood gas values. Blood gas values pertain to how you are excreting toxins that your lungs normally filter out. If your lungs are not working properly, it will show in this test. Blood gases or arterial blood gas values can be difficult to explain in a short article but know and understand that they play an extremely important part in the diagnosing process.

You will also undergo a chest x-ray looking for infection or another cause of worsening breathing problems.

A pulmonary function test (PFT) is a test that will measure lung volume, capacity, rates of flow, and gas exchange. This information can help your healthcare provider diagnose and decide your treatment. Both the PFT test and peak flow meter test is usually done by a respiratory therapist. Your doctor will bring them into your care for this.

Peak flow meter monitoring is a portable, easy-to-use device that measures how well your lungs are able to expel air. By blowing a quick blast of air through a mouthpiece on one end, the peak flow meter can measure the force of air in liters per minute and give you a reading on a built-in numbered scale. This reading is used in evaluating the severity of your disease and helps to determine medication use.

Medications to treat asthma

There are medications and treatments that are available to treat asthma. Some of the medications are in pill form and contain a steroid which will reduce the swelling in your airways. They will help to maintain an open airway to reduce the chances of swelling. So this is considered a long-term control medication. This oral or pill form medication is typically used along with the inhaled medications.

For quick and fast acting relief, there are medications that are given by inhalers, a nebulizer and/or a nasal spray. This type of medication is for immediate relief in the event of an asthma attack.

The corticosteroids used in these medications are synthetic (made in a laboratory) hormones that are similar to the hormones your body makes and their function is to reduce swelling.

Taking care of a child with asthma

If you have a child with asthma, you will want to closely follow your physician’s advice and instructions from your respiratory therapist. There will be specific instructions on medications and inhaled steroids. You will be taught how to monitor your child’s oxygen levels and what to do in the event of an asthmatic attack.

You will want to always monitor your child for any signs or symptoms of an asthma attack. See the above list for these signs. You will be instructed by your health care provider or nurse when you need to seek emergency medical care. If your child is having difficulty breathing even after a breathing treatment, you need to get them seen by your provider or emergency room immediately. Also, try to keep yourself and your child as calm as possible.

Watch out for those triggers, whatever they may be for your child, and try to prevent exposure to them. If your child has been exposed to a trigger, be prepared to handle it with a fast-acting inhaler.

Those fast-acting inhalers are usually called albuterol inhalers. They are a handheld small device that you place in your mouth and give 2 quick puffs. They act quickly and should be on hand at all times.

Emotional support

Support groups are a great way to connect with other parents and children to learn how to cope with this condition. Children especially benefit from this because they get to make friends with others who have asthma. Check with your health care provider for more information and for a support group near you.

What is a nebulizer?

A nebulizer turns a liquid into a very fine mist that a person can inhale through a face mask or mouthpiece. The liquid is a medication your doctor prescribes for your breathing problem. The medications are steroids which will open up your airways. These medications are namely albuterol, Xopenex or Pulmicort. Your provider will determine which one is appropriate and prescribe them for you. He will also tell you how many times each day you should use it. There are many nebulizers on the market, however, I recommend getting a portable one so you can easily travel with it.

If you are looking for a portable nebulizer, you can purchase yours here!

This portable nebulizer weighs 4.6 pounds so you can take it anywhere. It is very quiet running. This nebulizer is for both adults and children. It comes with an adult-sized and children-sized mask. It comes with the medicine cup, tubing, filters, and mouthpiece.

In closing

Asthma is a lung disease that affects many people including children. Along with treating this disease, obtaining emotional support is equally important. Breathing issues tend to always cause high anxiety and nervousness. This is part of your body’s reaction to this form of stress. Talk to your doctor or social worker to find a good support group near you for your child and yourself.

I hope you found this article helpful and it has answered a question or two you may have had. Please feel free to leave your questions or comments below and I will respond promptly.

Baby Play Yard (Should you use one?)

As the owner of this website, I have searched out some special deals for some of the products and services mentioned herein. When you use the links on this page to make a purchase, I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. All opinions remain my own. Full disclosure.

……

Somewhere from 6 to 7 months of age, your baby will start to pull herself up on her hands and knees rocking back and forth eventually starting to crawl. At this time you need to baby proof your house and decide how and when you will be able to supervise your baby. This is a good time to consider getting a baby play yard.

Watch that baby

As you already know, the minute your baby finds an object (no matter what it is) she is going to take it straight to her mouth. So, never leave your baby unattended – she can be as fast as the speed of light!

Back in the day, playpens were the greatest invention ever – besides sliced bread! I used them for my boys and I never thought of them as a “jail” for babies. They were a lifesaver when I needed to get some housework done and didn’t have time to watch the baby. I guess nowadays, things are different. I have spoken with parents and some of them do think of it as a baby jail. I guess everyone has their opinion – and that’s ok. So the saying goes “different strokes for different folks.”

A lifesaver!

Baby play yards, however, seem to be the “playpen” of our day. They are a type of baby gate that sets up in an octagon shape (it has 8 panels) and snap in place. These too will save the day! It keeps your baby safe and out of trouble!

One thing I liked about the playpen was that it sat off the floor. It was one unit with mesh sides, padded arm rails, and a floor in it with a mattress. Your baby was not on the floor and so would be more comfortable and warmer too. However, you can purchase a mat to place on the floor for your baby for more comfort. You can find one here. This folding ABC mat is made specifically for this play yard and will fit perfectly.

I have attached the link for it below and you can purchase it here!

Toddleroo by North States 71″ x 71″ Folding ABC Play Mat – Extra large, designed to fit 6 panel or 8 panel Superyards. Foldable. Almost 36 square feet of play space (ABC multicolored)

About the play yard

This is made out of heavy-duty plastic with a bright multicolor finish. This will brighten up your baby’s play as they absolutely love bright colors! This play yard unfolds and folds super easy and within seconds. You can fold it up in a flash when you want to go. Oh, and it has a carrying strap too.

The size is perfect as it encloses up to 34.4 square feet (over 7 feet across) and is 26 inches high.

Set-up is easy. The panels snap together, although make sure you pay attention to the directions when you first set it up. The panels go “one way.” So don’t force those panels the wrong way as they could break. As long as you follow the directions, you will be okay.

Also, you can use this baby play yard inside or outside.

So should you use a baby play yard?

The whole idea behind this play yard is to keep your baby safe.  There are times when you need a minute to get something done and need a safe place for your baby to play. Or, you may be visiting at a friend’s or grandma’s house and will want to bring this with you so you can put the baby down and let her play. Chances are that your friend’s or grandma’s house is not baby proofed and you need to be cautious about what she could get into. That’s where this baby play yard comes in to play. No pun intended, ha ha.

But on a serious note, my answer to this question is a resounding yes!

Get your baby play yard here!

A Baby Jogger (Run with it!)

As the owner of this website, I have searched out some special deals for some of the products and services mentioned herein. When you use the links on this page to make a purchase, I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. All opinions remain my own. Full disclosure.

A baby jogger you can count on!

Choosing the right stroller for you and your baby depends on the kind of lifestyle you live. Just like when you have to make any decision for a big purchase, you should consider these 4 factors:

  1. What will I use if for?
  2. Where will I use it?
  3. When will I use it?
  4. Why do I want or need this?

Once you’ve made your decision for a baby jogger, the next question should be which one? There are a lot of models out there, but there are lots of complaints about the front wheel coming off unexpectedly on certain models. Whoa, that’s a scary thought!

If you are a daily runner and enjoy bringing your little one along, this is the baby jogger/stroller for you! There will be no bad surprises or safety issues as this is specifically made in mind for the parent who wants to maintain fitness while jogging with your baby.

You get what you pay for

There is an old adage that says “you get what you pay for” and for much of my life, I have realized this to be the truth. So, let me get right into this review to show you how this jogger will make your life easier for that daily run and show you the high quality it affords.

(As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases)

Some specs from the manufacturer

  • 3 Wheel Stroller: 16″ rear and 12″ front air-filled tires with front-wheel lock mounted on the handlebar for easy conversions between jogger and stroller mode
  • All-wheel suspension system soaks up road bumps making it the perfect all-terrain stroller
  • Hand-operated rear brakes for more control on hilly or uneven terrain
  • Large adjustable sun canopy with peek a boo windows and side vents

Weight recommendations for child

The minimum weight is 5 pounds

The maximum weight is 75 pounds

Perfect for running with the baby

This jogger/stroller is perfect for your daily runs with the baby. It has an all-wheel suspension and glides easily over any terrain. There is also a remote wheel lock on the handlebar which allows you to shift from jogging to strolling. When you are running and find that you have to stop in a hurry, there are hand-operated brakes for you to use to stop your baby jogger.

There is a canopy on this jogger for protection from the sun or rain. You will find an adjustable five-point safety harness with shoulder pads on this baby jogger as well.

How easy is this to get in your trunk?

A really great feature is that this stroller has a one-step pull-to-fold design. You simply pull the strap with one hand and the jogger folds itself. It really doesn’t get any easier than this.  The next step, place it into your trunk.

One drawback

The only drawback to this baby jogger/stroller that I found was that its tires are inflatable – just like a bicycle. This means you have to watch out for deflated tires. My suggestion is to keep an air pump handy and check the tires before you go on a run.

My conclusion

Purchase your baby jogger/stroller here!

Baby Jogger Summit X3 Jogging Stroller – 2016 | Air-Filled Rubber Tires | All-Wheel Suspension | Quick Fold Jogging Stroller

(As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases)

I really think you will be more than pleased with the jogger/stroller as well as with the performance for a smooth run!! Your baby will enjoy this as much as you, no doubt!

Please feel free to drop a line or two in the comment section below. I would love to hear from you.
