What do I need to know before making formula?

The Baby Brezza will make just about any sized bottle you want to make. You can set it to make anywhere from 2 to 10-ounce bottles in 1-ounce increments.

There are 3 temperature settings – room temperature, body temperature, or warmer than body temperature. You can choose formula/water or water only.

Hypoallergenic formulas and Similac Alimentum

When it comes to mixing special formulas such as the hypoallergenic version and certain others like Similac’s Alimentum, the powders can be difficult to mix. The powder is resistant to water and so it takes a little more effort and time to mix. Also, you still have to keep as many bubbles out of the formula as possible. Remember bubbles in the formula are going to cause gas in your baby.

My concluding thoughts

Having a formula dispenser is of great benefit to parents who have babies aged newborn to 12-months old. Have you ever been out on a walk with your baby and toddler (or older child) and your child started whining saying “I’m tired!?” How about being at an amusement park such as the zoo or Disney World? There is a solution to this problem and I recently discovered an awesome attachment for your stroller. It is a way for your little one to enjoy going along and adds some adventure for him. I will give you the answer to “what is a stroller glider board?” in this article and tell you why it will be an important piece to add to your stroller accessory items.

What exactly is a stroller glider?

The stroller glider is also known as a stroller skateboard and is a terrific invention. This is something I wish I would have had when my kids were little, it would have saved a lot of frustration and headaches.

So let’s get to it and answer that question. The stroller glider is a device with a platform, has wheels and for the most part, looks like a skateboard. It attaches securely to the stroller in the back.

My concluding thoughts

How Air Purifiers Help Allergies

There are many different types of allergies, but for this article, I want to focus on airborne allergies, what causes them, and how you can control the quality of your indoor air. Even though you may be the cleanest housekeeper in town, there will still be little culprits in the air like mold spores, dust mites, and pet dander (if you have a pet). So you may ask, how then can I get rid of those little pests and clean my air? I will tell you about how air purifiers help allergies and clean your indoor air.

Airborne allergens

Let’s talk about airborne allergens that are found in indoor air. What are they and how do they affect me and my family?

Well, first of all, everyone is familiar with “dust.” But what exactly is dust?

Dust is made up of many elements that may include soil or dirt, tiny pieces of skin (skin cells), fibers from furniture and clothing and more. Dust mites are tiny little bugs that you cannot see with your naked eye and they live in the dust. It’s these dust mites that cause allergies to some people.

Pet dander or animal dander is another airborne allergen. Pet dander is the term for the very, very tiny skin cells that are shed from animals with fur or feathers.

The most common pet dander allergies come from dogs, cats, birds. rabbits as they are usually household pets. There are others, but for now, I will address dander from these pets.

The reason that pet dander causes a problem for those with allergies is that the dander contains a protein that causes the allergic reaction. Interestingly to note is that the same animal protein found in dander is also found in the animal’s urine and saliva. So this can have a double whammy effect – double the protein, double the allergic reaction.

Whenever a person is exposed to either a dust allergen or pet dander and that person has an allergy to either of these, that person is going to experience some or all of these symptoms:

Itchy or watery eyes
Coughing
Sneezing
Wheezing
Eczema
Stuffy nose or runny nose.

The allergic symptoms above will not stop until the person is removed from the allergen or the allergen is removed from the person. Also, airborne allergies are sometimes linked with asthma and so the reactions can be more severe. To learn more about asthma and its treatment, click here.

If action is not taken to correct the problem, the person with the allergy is going to go from experiencing those symptoms to an upper respiratory infection and/or an ear infection. An upper respiratory infection can include sinus infection and/or bronchitis.

Mold spores are yet one more airborne allergen and because of this complex subject, I will keep to a brief explanation of allergic reactions.

Mold can be found in a kitchen, bathroom, basement, or any damp area in the home. When the mold is disturbed, it sends the “mold spores” into the air. Hence, an airborne allergen.

Much can be said about these mold spores. However, if you have a mold spore allergy, this can be a big problem for you and your well-being.

Besides the classic signs of an allergy as listed above, a mold allergy can also be associated with asthma and exposure causes restricted breathing along with other airway symptoms.

How to control airborne allergens

To control these airborne allergens, you can take a variety of steps. First, let’s talk about the dust. To control the dust and get rid of dust mites, keep the surfaces in your home clean and uncluttered.

For all areas in the home: if you want carpet, get a low pile carpet or get throw rugs that you can wash.

In your bedroom, bare floors and walls are best and you will want to keep the bed sheets and bedding washed frequently. When washing bedding use a temperature of 130 degrees Fahrenheit and the hottest setting in the dryer to kill the dust mites.

Use allergen-resistant covers for the pillows, mattress, and box-springs.

For pet dander, it is best to just avoid it altogether. But, this is not so easy as most of us love to have a fur baby. My suggestion is that there are cute pooches who are hypoallergenic dogs. I actually have one, he is a golden-doodle. So, if you must have a furry friend, do some research to find out which ones are considered hypoallergenic, and then go for it!

A word of caution. I do want to say that even the hypoallergenic pooches will have a small amount of protein that causes allergic reactions. However, because of such a small amount it may cause a very little reaction to none at all.

To help prevent yourself or anyone else in your house from having an allergy attack due to a pet, it is best to not let your pet sleep in the bed with you.

Cover your vents with a cheesecloth.

Bathe and brush your pet often. This will minimize the amount of dander shed by your pet.

Ok, let’s talk about mold spores. To combat this problem, pay attention to the amount of humidity in your home. Keep your bathrooms clean and free of mold – paying special attention to showers, toilets, and sinks. The same goes for the kitchen. Keep the sink area clean and free of mold.

If you see mold in any of these areas, put a mask on and gloves before you clean those areas. You see, whenever you disturb an area with mold, those “mold spores” are released into the air and you can breathe them in.

Clear the air

So far we talked about airborne allergies, what they are and how they affect you. Now I want to tell you about an air purifier that you can use in your baby’s room or anywhere in your home. My conclusion

You could spend a fortune on air purifiers that can be attached to your furnace or air conditioning unit and still they won’t purify the air in the entire house. What is the Best Baby Food Maker?

Somewhere between 4 and 6 months of age, your baby will be ready for solids. This is determined by you and your pediatrician and mostly your baby! Some babies seem to be ready for solids at 3 months of age, but it is not recommended because it may contribute to food allergies down the road. If you are a mom who is particular about the foods you give to your family, then I suggest purchasing a baby food maker to ensure your baby gets nothing other than the purest and best food possible. In this review, I will tell you about a very affordable, very popular baby food maker and answer the question, “What is the Best Baby Food Maker?”

What is Evla’s baby food maker?

The baby food maker I am going to tell you about was made and designed by parents just like you and me. So, they had everything in mind as we would such as practicality, ease of use, cleaning, and reliability.

It is called, Evla’s Baby Food Maker. This device is very easy to use and creates fresh, healthy, homemade baby food very easily. The baby food maker is a multi-function food processor that steams, blends, reheats, and defrosts along with sterilizing and it is self-cleaning!

How does it work?

Using this device is so easy. Start with filling the water tank with approximately 7 ounces of water and secure the tank with the cover. Plug the machine in and press the power button for 3 seconds. You should hear a beep and the control panel will light up.

Remove the stirring cup from the unit by rotating it clockwise and lifting it out. Remove the lid by turning clockwise.

Cut up your vegetables and place them into the steaming basket. The steaming basket sits in the stirring cup. Replace the lid.

Note: Do not overfill the steaming basket.

Next, place the stirring cup in the unit, twist it to lock in place, and turn it on. Make sure the lid remains in the closed position.

Press the steam button and the steam cycle will start. The default steam time is 15 minutes. This can be adjusted up or down by using the time increase or time decrease buttons.

Once the steaming process is complete, you will hear 5 beeps.

Next, you will want to blend the food you have just steamed. Remove the stirring cup from the unit and remove the lid.

Remove the steaming basket and empty the contents back into the stirring cup. You may want to add or remove a little water to match the food consistency for the texture you want.

Reattach the stirring cup lid and return the stirring cup to the device securing it with a turn. Double-check that the lid remains in the closed position.

Press the auto blend button and when the auto blend cycle is complete, you will hear a beep, Or, if you prefer to manually blend, press the manual blend button on and off (pulsating blend) until you have reached the consistency you prefer.

Cleaning and maintenance

Evla’s baby food maker is designed to self-clean! Yes, you saw that right!! Cleaning up is always the absolute worst part of any cooking duties. I know I sure do hate that part.

So, how does this wonderful little machine self-clean? I will tell you.

First, take the stirring up and rinse it out at the sink. Fill the stirring cup with clean water up to the max cleaning line. Attach the spill-proof cover and re-attach the stirring cup to the device as you did before, making sure it is secure by turning it to lock in place.

Press the “clean” button and you will hear a beep when the cleaning cycle is finished. This takes around 45 seconds.

Remove any excess water and leave the unit to air dry.

Also, after every use empty the water tank, clean, and dry it out.

Sterilize

Before its first use and at regular intervals, it is recommended that you fully sterilize this device.

Fill the water tank up to the max line. You can place other items such as pacifiers, in the steaming basket for sterilizing too.

Place the stirring cup into the unit and secure it. Press the sterilize button. The sterilizing process lasts around 10 minutes and will beep 5 times when finished.

Why I think this food processor is the best

I think this little appliance is the best because it has 7 different functions, cleans itself, is super easy to use, and does not take much space on the kitchen counter. It is reasonably priced for all that it delivers.

This is the only baby food maker that I know of that comes with 6 reusable food pouches.

There is nothing like holding your baby in your arms to swing and cradle him. However, even though we would love to be able to do this all day long, life simply will not allow us to do that all the time. Sooner or later we have to put the baby down and get on with our day in one way or the other. So I have the answer to keeping your baby soothed as if you are cradling him in your arms. When you rock your baby either in your arms or sitting in your nursery glider, you use a back and forth motion very gently until he falls asleep. Well, the DuoGlider uses the same motion as you would and adds a few little extras.

Boost A Child’s Learning with Puzzles

There is nothing like a good puzzle to pass the time. For me, it is one of my favorite things to do on a rainy day. But did you know that building a puzzle is not only just a fun thing to do, it develops many skills? Puzzles are a great toy to get for your children as they provide a stimulating, educational experience. In this article, I will tell you about 5 different skills your child will gain simply by putting together a puzzle and how you can boost a child’s learning with puzzles.

1. Fine motor skills

When your child is working a puzzle, he has to grasp the pieces in order to place one in the space. This involves the small muscles in the fingers, hands, and wrists and so it is developing those “fine motor skills.” Early development of these smaller muscles in this area will help your child hold a pencil much easier and improve his writing skill. Not only writing skill is being developed, but fine motor skills are used in dressing yourself, feeding yourself, and being able to use a zipper.

2. Hand-eye coordination

Putting a puzzle together involves a lot of hand-eye coordination. The pieces are scattered around the table and you have to look at them all noticing the different shapes. Then, you have to look at the partially completed puzzle on the table and see what puzzle piece will fit into what area that is open. By doing this, the brain is being trained to coordinate what the eyes are seeing to the movement of the hands. Thus, hand-eye coordination is being developed.

3. Visual perception

Visual perception is not what the eyes see, but how the brain reads what your eyes are seeing.

Building a puzzle helps to develop this as you have to look at the different colors, shapes, and sizes and try to fit them in the puzzle. Visual perception is a skill needed for learning to read and this is a way to develop that skill.

Don’t confuse visual perception with visual acuity. Visual perception is how your brain understands what you see while visual acuity is how well your eyes see.

4. Memory

Memory is being developed as your child is working on the puzzle. It is being used to remember shapes, sizes, colors, and visualizing where the pieces fit in. When we use our memory, we are using both sides of the brain.

5. Problem-solving skills

Yes, you read that right! Toddlers can learn early on how to problem-solve. This is done when looking at the pieces and trying to fit them in by trial and error.

What are the best first puzzles?

For your toddler who is 2 years old, wooden large puzzles are best. They usually will have simple designs and have either ABCs, animals, or 123s. They are simple to put together for you and I, but provide an adequate challenge for your toddler.

This is a great time to start working with your child with this type of puzzle and before long, he will be putting them together himself and developing the skills listed above.

Obviously, life doesn’t stop after having a baby and household chores still need to be done. Using a playpen is not a cruel thing to do, it is the safe thing to do. Place the baby in the playpen with a few favorite and safe toys and you know he is safe and sound. It just makes life so much easier for you and safest for baby. We cannot always sit and watch the baby all the time every day.

The Extra Large Playpen for Toddlers is my second choice for one of the best playpens available. This one is very roomy too!

The size of this playard is 59″x71″x27″ so you can see just how much room there is for your baby to safely play.

This also is made of mesh sides and has a waterproof bottom made of fabric so you can wash it. Take this playpen anywhere – grandma’s house, parks, outside on the patio or deck or just use it at home.

This playpen does not fold up, you have to assemble it. You need to make sure you follow directions carefully so it is put together correctly for sturdiness.

Two drawbacks

There is no padding for the bottom of this playpen so if you want it to be cushioned, you have to buy a pad for the bottom. This makes the playpen set a little more pricey than the rest.

The other drawback is that it is not a fold-up and carry. You have to assemble and disassemble each time you want to use it, unless you are setting it up for use at home.

Playmat for the extra-large playpen

I recommend the Baby Care Play Mat to go with the extra-large playpen. If you have hardwood floors, you are going to want to have some cushion for your baby in case she stumbles while trying to stand up. I have pictured it below.

The size of the mat is 72.8 x 0.4 x 49.2 inches and will fit in this playpen.

It is important to say that this mat is hygienic and hypoallergenic and is non-toxic. This mat can be used not only for baby but for you or anyone else in the family for let’s say, floor exercising, stretching, etc.

For instance, playing with blocks helps children develop their vocabularies, improves math skills and teaches them about gravity, balance and geometry! Even though a toddler is not in math class, playing with blocks certainly increases their ability to think creatively.

They learn how to describe shapes, colors, sizes and positions. As they build various structures, imagination is developed.

A place to eat

I remember when I purchased this toddler table and chairs for my grandson, his eyes lit up when he walked into the dining area and saw this table! He was so excited that he had his very own place to sit and eat or play.

I was so excited to see him so happy with this and I think I love it as much as he does! He sits there to eat and he loves to watch his movies while he eats. It is so cute to see him at his own little table and loving it as much as he does.

So let me tell you about this table and chairs. First I want to tell you that the table is 26 x 22 inches and is 19 inches high. The chairs are 10 x 10 x 22 inches and 10 inches high.

Teens and Braces (What To Know)

Do you have a teenager at home who has braces? Are you finding that your teen is having difficulty caring for her teeth with those braces? Well, I can tell you that I was in your shoes not all that long ago and I want to share with you what I have found to be true and of great help. Importance of good dental care

The importance of good dental care every day cannot be stressed enough. Our teeth should not only make for a great smile, but there are many more health reasons why we should keep our teeth clean and free from debris.

Keeping your teeth clean and free of food particles is extremely important in preventing tooth decay and periodontal disease (disease of your gums). There are many types of bacteria in the mouth and when the food particles stay too long, the bacteria “eats” the food particles and begin to start the tooth decaying process. This causes “bad breath” and is an obvious clue as to what is happening.

If you do not brush your teeth, this process of tooth decaying goes to the gums and starts the gum disease process. This not only causes a severe gum problem, but results in loss of bone, teeth and leads to other diseases.

This is even more crucial if you have braces on your teeth. The braces make it very difficult to clean the teeth properly. So, how do you do it? How can you brush your teeth effectively and get in between the teeth to remove the rest of the food particles that the brush cannot reach?

I have a solution and I can tell you that I was faced with the same questions when my son had braces. He would get so frustrated when trying to brush his teeth and then flossing was even worse!

Brushing and flossing

Brushing and flossing your teeth should be an absolute routine for everyone. This should occur in the morning and before bedtime – at the very least! It is recommended to brush and floss after each meal especially if you have braces on your teeth.

Food particles can not only get stuck in between the teeth, but also in the braces. This is where the challenge really is!

So, what did I do to help my son with his oral care while having braces on his teeth?

I bought a Waterpik for him to use with the oscillating toothbrush and it worked like a charm! All I can say is WOW, I couldn’t believe it.

When he used that, all kinds of stuff came out and I was so glad to see him using it and his frustration was gone. I am going to tell you a little more about this great tool for brushing and how it really cleans your teeth.

Using the Waterpik

This Waterpik system, the toothbrush, and the “water flosser”, is by far the easiest and most effective way to clean your teeth. Also, I want to mention that it is the #1 brand that dental professionals recommend for brushing and flossing your teeth – especially when you have braces.

The Waterpik flosser gets to places that string floss could never reach. It also is the best for treating periodontal pockets and cleaning implants and dental work such as crowns, bridges, and veneers.

Close your lips enough to keep the water from splashing and aim the tip at the gumline. I recommend you start at the back of your mouth, top teeth and aim at each tooth base/gum line all the way around to the other side. Then, do the same for the lower teeth.

When you are finished, remove the tip using the eject button and place the unit back onto the base.

You will not believe how much stuff you will see falling to the sink! String floss just cannot do the same job and it cannot reach where it needs to go because of the braces.
